Technology licensing

We license. You produce.

Your platform for bio-manufacturing: our strain, process package and support. Produce in your own plant, or at a CDMO near you that we manage.

What is technology licensing?

We transfer our technology to you: the production strain, the process package and our support. You produce in your own plant, or Fooditive manages production for you at a CDMO near your factory.

Either way, the ingredient is made close to your market. You control cost and supply.

How licensing works

Production

Two ways to produce

  • In your own plant

For companies with fermentation capacity. We transfer the strain, the process package and our support, and you run production.

  • At a CDMO near you, managed by Fooditive

For food makers without a fermentation plant. Fooditive manages production at a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) close to your factory.

The challenge

The scale-up gap

In precision fermentation, the barrier is rarely biology. It is scale: strains that work in the lab often fail in industrial tanks.

Regulation adds years. A GRAS conclusion or a Novel Food authorisation needs multi-year toxicology studies and major investment.

Licensing a platform that has done this work lets you start where we are today.

The solution

Two flagships to license now, three more by project

  • Keto-Fructose Sweetener

    Licensing now

Fooditive Sweetener® Keto-Fructose (5-keto-D-fructose, 5-KDF). We use a proprietary, non-GMO strain of Gluconobacter oxydans, an organism with an 80-year history of safely making food ingredients like vinegar.

  • Non-Animal Casein

    Licensing now

Casein made by precision fermentation with precision-engineered E. coli strains. GRAS notices submitted to FDA in February 2026.

    Discover the Non-Animal Casein
  • FAOX-C enzyme

    Project-based

An enzyme that converts fructose into 5-KDF inside the food, to cut sugar.

  • Bee-Free Honey

    Project-based

Honey made by fermentation, from enzymes that recreate what bees do with nectar.

  • Next-gen ingredients

    Project-based

Emulsifier, preservative, fat replacer, thickener and low-salt, from food side streams.

How licensing works

Three steps to your own production

  1. Evaluation

You validate the ingredient specs in your own application labs, and review the regulatory dossier summaries with your quality team.

  2. Development

We agree a scoped technology transfer. Our team works with yours from pilot runs to scale-up in your plant.

  3. Commercial licence

You produce under licence, near your market, and supply your own brands or customers.

The licensing package

What you receive

  • The biological asset

Access to the working cell banks and the strain maintenance protocols.

  • The playbook

Standard operating procedures, process flow diagrams and the critical process parameters, upstream and downstream.

  • The support

A technical liaison supports your engineers during the first commercial runs.

  • Regulatory readiness

For 5-KDF: safety files with OECD-aligned genotoxicity data and the self-affirmed GRAS dossier (2024, independent expert panel).

A white box: you see how it works.

You get the knowledge to run and troubleshoot the process yourself. That is honest tech transfer.

Co-development

Built around your market

For ingredient companies that want to grow their portfolio, we act as an innovation partner.

We can adapt our platform to express new targets, or tune functions that matter in your market.

Licensing questions

Do you sell the ingredient, or license the technology?

We license the technology. You produce in your own plant, or Fooditive manages production for you at a contract manufacturer (CDMO) near your factory. Either way, the ingredient is made close to you.

How much do we learn about the process?

Everything you need. It is a “white box” transfer: you receive the strain, the procedures and the process knowledge your engineers need to run and troubleshoot the process.

Can we test before we commit?

Yes. Through our sample and pilot access programme you test the ingredient in your own labs, and review the dossier summaries before any licence is signed.

Apply for pilot access

Which technologies can be licensed today?

All of them: 5-KDF, non-animal casein, bee-free honey, the FAOX-C enzyme and our next-gen ingredients. For non-animal casein, GRAS notices were submitted to FDA in February 2026.

What is the U.S. regulatory status of 5-KDF?

Self-affirmed GRAS (2024, independent expert panel). GRAS notice GRN 1326 submitted to FDA on 29 January 2026.
