ROTTERDAM, Netherlands – Fooditive Group, a Dutch plant-based ingredient company, announced plans to bring its sweetener, Fooditive Sweetener® Keto-Fructose (5-keto-D-fructose, 5-KDF), to the American food and beverage industry.
5-KDF has about 70% of the sweetness of sugar. It is designed to help food and beverage manufacturers make reduced-sugar products.
5-KDF is made by microbial fermentation of a fructose substrate, followed by purification. Target applications include chocolate, baked goods, fruit fillings, glazes and beverages.
The company is also seeking partnerships with manufacturers, distributors and industry innovators to speed up the adoption of 5-KDF in the U.S. market. Fooditive aims to meet the growing demand for reduced-sugar products. Moayad Abushokhedim, CEO of Fooditive, said:
“Fooditive understands the challenges of replacing sugar. The value of a sugar alternative is not measured by taste alone. That is why our sweetener is designed for function as well as taste. It reflects our commitment to meeting the real needs of food manufacturers.”
He added:
“Fooditive supports the food industry’s goal of reducing sugar while keeping the qualities that sugar brings to food products. This sweetener reflects our commitment to innovation and sustainability, and our mission to find ingredients that meet the needs of American food producers.”
Fooditive developed 5-KDF with sustainability and cost in mind, so that manufacturers have an affordable and accessible option for sugar reduction.
